The screw classifier is also known as Akins’ classifier. The screw classifier consists of a tilted semi-cylindrical basin with a large corkscrew-like spiral. The spiral of the classifier rotates at a rate of 2–10 spins per minute. The classifier slowly pushes the material at the bottom up the slope towards the top. The finer particles flow over the lower end wall.
